Plants Week 2

I said I would try to take pictures every week of my plants so I can see their progress. I actually did! Here is what they look like this week:

This is the zucchini plant. It's already flowering. I was surprised to see that.

Here are the tomato plants. I know they're bigger, but I don't see a huge difference yet.

The two plants in the front are my peppers. I don't see much growth here either, but I'm sure they're bigger too.

And here are my green beans. I knew they would look like this this week. I was so excited to see those little guys poking out of the soil. Now I need to thin them out.

So that's the progress this week. I still need to plant a few more things, but I don't know if that's going to happen. Hubby wanted to do corn, and I wanted onions, but I think we learned our lesson last year about over planting. I want to plant some pumpkins this year just to see if I can. I love painting pumpkins in the fall. We paint one side for October and in November we turn them around to the blank side so we can keep that harvest look going a little longer. When that time of year comes, I'll be sure to post the pictures.

Good Deals Day

Today I was at the mall and decided to stop by Gymboree. I was shocked to see that everything in their store was $12.99 and under! I have never seen a sale like that at Gymboree before. One of the ladies who work their told me that the sale is going on until next Sunday. So if you like Gymboree, get there soon. I doubt they'll have a good selection by next Sunday. I lucked out today. I don't know when it started, but they weren't very busy when I got there.

Anyway, I stopped by  JoAnn's today and I got some pretty good deals there too. They have their flannel marked down to $2.50/yd which is awesome for me because I want to make some burp cloths. I bought some Warm n' Natural batting at 40% off too.

I then went to Hobby Lobby to see if I could find flower petals because I saw a really cute idea for a backpack. I can't wait to do that project!

Here is a list of projects I plan to get done in the next few days/weeks:

Flower Petal Backpack
Burp Cloths
Child's Apron
Summer Bag for me!

I promise I will get to sewing soon! Right now there are just so many other things that have to be done, unfortunately my craft or sewing time falls to the bottom of the list.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Funny Video

When I was looking for the video I posted on Monday, I came across this video. I got a couple laughs out of it. I hope you do too...

This is another one that I thought was funny. I literally laughed out loud when he sang about the day and then the angry look he got on his face. Hilarious! If anyone out there likes this restaurant, I'm sure you can relate to that part of the song, I know I did!

What did you say?

Leaf and I have conversations about language sometimes and talk about things that annoy us. For example...I hate it when someone uses literally for everything. Especially when it isn't true. I have heard the following "It was so hot outside, I literally melted". Really? So how is it that you're able to tell me this story? Or "I was so surprised I was literally blown away". You get the idea. Another thing that annoys me is when people use I for everything, "It took my husband and I an hour to work in the yard" WRONG! It's actually "It took my husband and ME an hour to work in the yard". It drives me crazy. Or "Her and her husband will meet us there". Wrong again, it's actually, "She and her husband will meet us there". Take the other person out of the sentence and see how much sense it makes, "Her will meet us there" or "She will meet us there".  Anyway, I found this video and I thought it was funny. I am guilty of some of them, such as talking too fast and blurring my words together. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. And if you're guilty of some of them, please don't get mad at me :)

More Planting Today

So we were able to do some more planting today. As you can see hubby finished putting together the raised bed and we were able to plant our garden.

Here are our tomatoes. We have 3 Roma and 3 Big Boy tomato plants.

Here are 3 green pepper plants.

Our one zucchini plant. But I only want it for my chocolate chip zucchini nut bread, so I should get plenty for that.

Here are a couple of plants I bought for my little one. I wanted annuals so I used Dusty Millers instead of Lambs Ears and Snapdragons because it's fun to make them "talk".

I planted my Salvia and I still have more that need to be planted.

In between these Hostas are Zinnias. The name of them is Profusion Cherry. They're really pretty. We've planted them before and they're hardy too.

Hubby split my Daylilies and look at what a good size they still are!

It was raining when I was taking these pictures. It just seems like we can't get through a day without rain. It's taking us forever this year to get things planted. We still have 2 flats of impatiens to plant. I have plants that need to be relocated and still need to be split. It's crazy.

I plan on taking pictures of the garden every week and posting them. I love watching their growth. One thing you couldn't see in the garden pictures was the green beans. We planted the seeds tonight. They grow like crazy, so I can't wait to see what they look like in a week!

Does Yardwork Ever End?

I just realized that the last time I posted was on the 14th. Today was the first day we were able to plant anything. I'll post my pictures and explain as I go along...

Last year we decided to do a raised garden...on the deck. Needless to say, it took up a lot of room. So this year I told hubby I want it in the yard. This is what it looked like in pieces as he took it apart and put it in the yard. Notice the massive amount of soil on the tarp. All of that is from the raised bed.

Here is the last bit of the bed before it was completely off the deck. We were a little concerned because we didn't know what the boards were going to look like under the soil.

Here is yet another project. The shed needs to be painted and if you look to the left there is a huge pile of wood that needs to be thrown out. We're not really sure how to get rid of it  so that's why it's still there. I think we may end up calling someone to come out and get it because I wouldn't be surprised if there are termites in the bunch.

Here is a picture of my Hostas that I talked about in my last post. Remember how I said I would plant in between them? Well the winner this year is...Zinnias! I can't remember the name of the color, but it's really pretty. I'll post the name when I get outside and look at the label. Pay no attention to the grass growing up between the mulch :) It will be taken care of...eventually!

Here is yet another area of Hostas. In between and around them will be Salvia.

For whatever reason, Blogger decided to flip this picture sideways and no matter what I do it won't turn right side up. Sorry. Anyway, these are the Impatiens that are going to go in between the Hostas lining the side of the house that hubby just planted. I thought I took a picture of those, but I guess I didn't because it's not on my camera.

And this is a picture of one of my rose bushes. These are knockout roses which are pretty hardy. But some stupid bug keeps snacking on them! It's making me really mad. I have a total of four roses. I have two double knockout rose bushes and two climbing roses. I have to say, those are some of the most irritating plants. I know effort has to go into growing them, but UGH! I need to by some rose spray and just start spraying them. I also need to break down and get some kind of ant stuff to get rid of those pesky things. They are having too much fun eating my plants and I'm tired of it.

Well that's what's going on with me. At the rate I'm going I probably won't be posting again until some time next week. So until next time, take care!

Plant Time!

Today was a plant kind of day. We went to the nursery center and bought a lot of plants. Here's the rundown:

12 Royal Hostas
2 flats of impatiens
3 snapdragons
3 dusty millers
6 salvia (annual)
9 nierembergia
6 tomato plants
3 pepper plants
2 zucchini plants
corn seeds
green bean seeds

We finally figured out how far apart to space our hostas when it started raining really hard. The label said 12-15 inches apart, but I think that is way to close. We have Royal Hostas in another area and they are huge! Those are spaced 48 inches apart (which is a little far, but we're planting between them). Since our calculations were off, we now have an additional 5 hostas that I don't know what to do with. I'm going to ask if I can return them. I've never tried return a plant to a nursery so I'm not sure of their return policy. If they won't take them back, I'm sure I can find somewhere to plant them. I'll take pictures when we get everything planted.

I also have finally gotten out to buy some fabric. I am so excited to get started on a couple of things. I will definately post them when they're done.

I was playing around with different backgrounds today. What do you think of this one compared to the other? I kind of like this because it looks "cleaner". Let me know.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Still Here!

Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still here. This past week has been a full week and I've had little time for blogging. I haven't even been cooking! I am so behind in housework it isn't even funny. I had a dream about laundry which is pretty sad and just goes to show how bad things must be. My dream went something like this...I go into the basement and see the the laundry is piled all the way to the ceiling. As I'm standing there trying to figure out how to tackle it, all of the clothes fell on top of me and I was fighting to get out. When I woke up I had a burning desire to do laundry :) I'll try to start posting frequently again, but it's been tough.

I bought two new books recently, one is called "One Yard Wonders" and the other is called "Oliver + S Little Things to Sew". I'm very excited to start some new projects. I haven't had any inspiration recently, but now I have plenty. I can't wait to get back to sewing again. I went through a major bag phase, and I love them, but I got a little burned out. I didn't keep all of them, but I have four. I've been thinking about making some more, and now I have a couple books with a good amount of bag ideas. All I need is some fabric :)

As proof of my bag frenzy, here are some pictures (notice I said "some". This isn't even all of them):

These are from leftover fabric. Why buy gift bags when you can make them?

I hope all you mama's out there had a great Mother's Day. I also hope that all the women who don't have children had a nice day too. Whether you spent time with your own mother, or you share your time and love with other children, I hope it was a nice day of reflection. I had a good day. We went to church, then came home and hubby grilled out and made dinner for me. The card that my little one picked out was funny. It was a bunny holding an Ipod and the bunny said basically there is an app for everything. Inside the bunny arms opened wide and said "I wish there was a mommy hug app". It was cute. But of course, my little one doesn't need that app because I probably hug too much. When you have to ask for hugs does that mean you're a big hugger? Anyway, after eating and reading cards, we went for a walk and did some yard work. That probably doesn't sound too fun, but it is in the spring. Summertime, not so much. That requires too much weeding and watering.

Again, I'll try to be better with posting, but it might have to wait until next week, or I'll post more frequently, but it will just random thoughts. Either way, I'll do my best!

Take care,
Apple
